Thinking back

Mine, a favorite, from 2013

Is it odd that we call academic drawing sessions with nude models “life classes?”  People who have not done them might think they are embarrassing or sexually stimulating, but i never found them so, nor did fellow artists seem to.  Can’t speak for everyone, though.  However, I’ve always been careful who I show what.  I can cite specific people reacting, shall we say, prudishly.  So should I hide the nudes or stop drawing them? The knee-jerk answer is, of course not. Unless they are just badly rendered.  But negative reactions do have negative effects on anyone’s productions.

Seeing my favorite ones from 2013 prompts an association with body sensing, the practice I learned from Gurdjieff work.  Awareness of life in the human body is the common denominator, I’d say. Very valuable, both.
